A Message from Debbie: Linking Arms, Looking Forward

By Debbie Weaver, Alaris Owner and CEO

I wanted to start this message with an uplifting quote about leading during tough times, or the importance of working towards a singular goal, or even something inspiring in the vein of “we’re all in this together.” But when I sat down to write something like that, it felt forced and, well, a little flippant. Instead, I wanted to speak to you – the Alaris family, our clients, and our partners – from my heart.

I do not need to tell you that the past several months have been challenging. There is no one person, company or country that has not been touched by the COVID-19 pandemic. For Alaris it has been – in a word – crazy. In the past two months, I have seen more changes happen at this company and in our industry than I have seen in the past 35 years. We have had to make a lot of very difficult changes. It has been hard, it has been stressful, and I know I have shed a lot of tears along the way.

As CEO of Alaris, it is my job to lead the company and steer the ship in the correct way. That has not been easy as of late, and if the responsibility had been solely on my shoulders, I do not know if we would have been successful. In the end, it was the team behind me – not to mention our amazing clients – that helped our company weather this storm and make the changes necessary to survive.

Thanks to innovative practices we had already adapted, Alaris was poised and prepared to have a remote workforce available. I am impressed at how nimble we were as a company. Our team members, internal clients and external clients all banded together to embrace the changes in our industry and acclimate the way we work to be more efficient. Here are just a few ways that we revised our business to be successful:

  • We adapted streaming and conferencing technologies across all our platforms, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WebEx and VC, enabling clients and team members to “meet” whenever and wherever.
  • All Alaris offices remain open for client meetings and touch-bases. Additionally, we implemented safety check-ins to ensure the safety and health of everyone who comes through our doors.
  • We were able to dedicate a team of in-house technicians to monitor our remote services and be available to assist our clients every step of the way from virtual depositions to online mediation proceedings.

Thanks to the hard efforts of everyone involved, Alaris is not just surviving...we are thriving. Our numbers continue to increase thanks to the support of our clients, court reporters, videographers, ADR neutrals and the Alaris staff. Hats off to all of you...and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

I have heard it said that it is easy to be a leader during the good times, but it is when times are tough that a leader’s true colors are revealed. I hope that the colors I have shown have inspired you and encouraged you for our future. I have been as transparent as possible, communicating with you everything I know – both the good and the bad. I hope I have provided a source of support for you. You have certainly all been a support for me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you do and continue to do each day. I invite you to reach out to me at any time with questions, comments, advice, or any ideas on how we can continue to shape Alaris in this brave new world. Alaris may look a lot different moving forward, but I am positive that we will have a bright and brilliant future – thanks to you.

Best to you,

Debbie Weaver
